Hopefully you have been following my little series here and if not please go back and start at the beginning with the Jan 7 post. By now, assuming you have begun to adopt this Accomplishments Mindset I have been touting, you will truly begin to understand and accept the confidence, poise and motivation that comes with knowing your value and, more importantly, being able to speak up for yourself.
I know that for many of you this just is not in your nature. You still might be thinking that this is boasting. It’s not. It professionally informing your boss and her boss and his boss of your value.
In the beginning, and throughout the #BragRight series, I have talked about the 40 years or so that make up your career. That’s it! Just 40 years. If you are 23 years old looking forward that may feel like a long time out. It’s not. If you are 40 years old you are already half-way done and what have you accomplished? Are you where you want to be in your life, your career, your legacy?
It’s now time for you to make a decision that you will, going forward, begin to communicate your value and not wait around for the slap on the back.
For some of you this may not be easy. I’m good with that. If that is the case ‘float’ out some personal wins to really close friends. Tell them, even, that you are ‘trying out’ personally communicating your value. THEN take the leap. Try it with a senior co-worker or even (Gads!) your immediate supervisor. Take it light. Take it slow. Speak to something simple like the extra time you spent off the clock working on _____ (fill in the blank).
Here’s my point: I don’t want you to wait until performance review time to inform that powers-that-be that you are worth you paycheck and MORE.
To your success!
