You may or may not be aware that I am, because of what I do, very active on social media. If you are social-media savvy and a wee-bit too shy yet to share your wins with the powers-that-be all around you may be more comfortable trying them out on your social media.
There’s enough to choose from and you can probably find one of the platforms that most appeals to you, what you do and your sensibilities.
Start small. If you have been following this series and/or my Periscope videos in support of #BragRight, you will know that you must be able to present a personal achievement in the “I was responsible for ______________ that resulted in _________________.” This is the ‘bulleted,’ single sentence statement that you can try out on your Facebook account; enhance with detail to add to your LinkedIn profile or even better, state it in 140 characters or less on Twitter. (Twitter is thinking of modifying that character count so if you see this/hear this in the future that number may be no longer accurate.)
You audience on social media, unless you are posting in support of a business you manage, will most likely be friends and family so try it out. Put it up and see what kinds of bells you might ring. If you are getting a bunch of “I had no idea you were doing that/could do that,” you are on the right track. If, on the other hand, you are receiving comments such as, “What’s the big deal?” or “Why are you going on about this…” maybe you are missing the appropriate and professional aspect of personal, self-promotion.
Bottom line? Just getting ‘you’ out there could lead to new opportunities. It is call social media for a reason!
Hey! You know I wish you the best!
To your success!
